Bitter or Better

“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14 NIV

You have to make an effort. Sometimes it gets hard dealing with people. Sometimes people are rude, they get upset with you, or they are just straight up haters. I like this scripture because it says to make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy. This doesn’t mean try once and give up, but to keep on trying.

What does it mean to be holy? The dictionary says holy means, “dedicated or consecrated to God or a religious purpose; sacred.” The Hebrew word for holy is “qodesh” and means “apartness, set-apartness, separateness, sacredness.”

When we’re dedicated to God and set apart, our lives should reflect the attributes of God… love, peace, kindness, gentleness, etc.

God did everything He could to bring us back into a right relationship with Him. He gave His only Son just so we could have an opportunity to have fellowship with Him. There was no guarantee we would choose Him or live for Him, but He still gave it all.

Today let’s try our best to live in peace. Don’t hold onto things that are going to keep you mad and upset. Don’t get bitter, get better. I’ll leave you with this quote that someone once said, “Bitterness is like drinking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”

Today’s challenge: Ask God to search your heart to see if your holding on to things you need to get over.  Pray and ask him to revel these things and take it one step further and ask for forgiveness.
