“Treat others the same way you want them to treat you.” Luke 6:31

Here in Luke chapter 6 we see Jesus begins to challenge the way we treat people; not only does he challenge us but he also gives instruction on how to do that. Too many times we can act and react through our emotions. Jesus desires us to grow beyond ourselves and our emotion. The way we treat people matters. He takes it a step further, in the rest of this chapter when he says not just to love those that love us but love our enemies, to give without expecting return and not to judge others. Jesus was challenging our love for others. We must begin to see people through the eyes of love. We need to set an example of Love!

Key areas to grow in concerning love are our attitude, actions and the way we speak.

  • In our attitudes- Think of others “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4
  • In our actions- We need to show love “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Galatians 6:7
  • In our speech- “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” Proverbs 15:1

Things to remember

  1. People are people
  2. We’re (you and I) not perfect

Let’s show love, grace, and mercy, the very things we all need. Let’s grow through it together! Let God grow us in our love for people.
