Put God First
“Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10 NKJV
The Bible clearly tells us to put God first in our lives. In the Ten Commandments it says to have no other gods before Him. My question is what have we put before him? Sometimes with out even noticing we began to place things before him. Sometimes in just a matter of time others things creep in and become first. Sometimes it’s sin. Sometimes they’re not even bad things. We can put our spouse, families, or careers ahead of God sometimes.
In the book of Genesis we see a passage of scripture about Cain and Abel. The Bible says. “And the man knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man with the help of Jehovah. And again she bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto Jehovah. And Abel also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And Jehovah had respect unto Abel and to his offering:” Genesis 4:1-4 ASV
What Cain offered to God wasn’t accepted but what Abel brought was excepted. What was the difference? The Bible says about Cain “and in the process of time.” What this means is that he didn’t give his first, but he gave after a process of time. This means he held on to his first, he held on to his best. Instead of giving God what He deserved, Cain gave God second best.
In the process of time something happened. Instead of giving his best, he held on to the best for himself and gave God the rest. Today I want to challenge us as Victory Outreach to give God our best. Give God our first because He deserves it. Don’t hold on over a process of time to what belongs to God. Give him our best in every area of our lives.
